Susanna has been writing since she was ten years old. Her first experiences and explorations were with poetry. She dabbled with poetry until she entered high school and then it became a part of her life. It wasn’t until she entered adulthood that she decided to share her poetry with others. She eventually entered the annual National Library of Poetry contest. Her poem, “The Emerald Lake” , was chosen for an Editor’s Choice Award, in 1996 and was published in Beneath the Harvest Moon. The following year, 1997, she entered the contest again with a poem titled, “Abyss” and it was also published in another book, A Season of Flowers.
It was during this time that the seeds of a novel began to take root and whenever she could, she jotted down any ideas that came to her. Her life soon took a turn that changed her world forever; in six years she became a mother three times over. The next six years were a busy time for her; raising children and continuing with her teaching career.
Her dreams to one day write a novel niggled at her and she longed to pick up her pen and create. She was a bit apprehensive so she enrolled in a writing course, “Breaking Into Print”, through the LongRidge Writers Group. This course got her creative juices flowing and she became a more confident writer upon completion in 2005. What she learned in this course was invaluable and she became encouraged to write. She submitted several articles to magazines but her most important accomplishment during this time was the creation of a children’s book. That same year she was invited to try a new course, “Shape, Write, and Sell Your Novel”, the LongRidge Writers Group was implementing. The chance to begin her dream had just fallen at her doorstep. She completed the course in 2009 with a wealth of new found knowledge, several tips and tricks of the trade and three finished chapters. She had the tools behind her to dive in. Recently, she has completed the third book in the series, The War of the Dragons. All three are available on Amazon.
Recently, she retired from her 29 year career as an educator and now writes full time. She successfully relaunched her children's book, "What's My Color?" in December 2020! She hopes to add another book to this genre, eventually. She created the first Canadian 261 Fearless club, a non-profit running group for women, 261 Fearless Club Lloydminster in 2017. Due to unforeseen events the club was closed November 2019.
